Chief Development Officer
Reports To: President

Provide strong, effective leadership for a comprehensive development program.
Develop new donors capable of giving $1,000+ annually.
Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects capable of giving $50,000 and more over time.

Essential / Core Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight of a comprehensive development program which includes major gifts, planned giving, grants, annual giving, special events, and stewardship
  • Serve as the lead strategist in creating a multi-year development plan which will increase contributions annually
  • Provide leadership and guidance for campaign operational strategy, management, and processes, including associated timelines, objectives, and metrics
  • Inspire engagement by advocating for our mission and those we serve
  • Develop new donors and donations through prospect research
  • Develop new corporate and foundation relationships and donations
  • Develop new, innovative fundraising initiatives as needed
  • Steward existing major donors ($20,000) in partnership with the President
  • Assist the President with oversight and management of marketing and communications
  • Increase portfolio of bequests and planned gifts
  • Manage special major campaigns, ie, Capital Campaigns
  • Supervise development office staff including Associate Director of Development
  • Build the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the development team
  • Track development revenue, expenses, and budgeted forecasts
  • Attend all Board of Directors meetings and report on development objectives and progress per metrics
  • Identify, recruit, and assist with onboarding of Easton and South Coast Development Board members
  • Attend high-impact community relations events
Desirable Qualities & Experience
  • Deep commitment to Christian service and the mission of My Brother’s Keeper
  • Track record of 5 or more years of demonstrated success in development positions with progressive responsibility — work in a non-profit or mission-driven organization is a distinct plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to effectively engage and build relationships with donors and prospective donors
  • Strong public-speaking skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong management skills with a track record of good teamwork and team management
  • Good time management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, dynamic organization
  • Sound judgment — position involves decision-making throughout the day which must occur independent of direct supervision
  • Flexibility — ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, make quick adjustments to schedules, and redirect resources
  • Able to manage donor information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and donor relations management software
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree or additional relevant training is a plus
